The little limey has saved the day so many times, proved it's self over and over, and is truly a must have in everyone's fly box!  It doesn't happen very often, but when the trout get focused on the tiny green pupae if you don't have something that fits the bill you're going to find yourself sitting on the side lines instead of in the game! Elvis is in the building! The Mud & Blood chironomid is an awesome transition fly for when the bows are taking pupating chironomid larvae. Fish them near, or even right on, the bottom as that is typically where the metamorphosis occurs.  The fly's red butt simulates residual hemoglobin and has proven very effective in enticing trout to strike!  A great searching pattern that is always worth having in the fly box! Tied for you the exact same way as for ourselves, on quality 2X hooks, doused in KRAZY glue and available in the three (3) common sizes (#14, #16 & #18).

What can we say about the Zucchini chironomid pupa fly. From the day it was first developed it has caught fish and grown to be one of the most popular chironomid pupa flies throughout our vast stillwater region. The Zucchini chironomid represents a dark green/black pupa with just the right amount of shimmer and a red blood rib that drives trout crazy. A super effective chirony fly that works well from a tiny #16 to a bomber #12 2X. As usual this is the exact same pattern, tied the with the exact same materials and in the exact same manner (including a full coating of KRAZY glue), that we use ourselves here on the trophy trout waters of the beautiful BC Interior. If we could only have one chironomid pupa fly pattern this is the one to have!
